A Rheumatologist is an Internal Medicine Physician specifically trained in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with musculoskeletal diseases such as Osteoarthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Gout, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. A Rheumatologist can be a "specialist" whom your primary care physician may consult to help with the treatment of a specific illness, or function as a generalist/internist in the care of someone with multiple medical problems arising from a rheumatic disease.
